This Halloween marks the birthday of legendary animator Ollie Johnston. Ollie would have been 103 today. I extend my best wishes to the animation legend's family and friends on his 103rd.
According to Andreas Deja, even a few years before he died at age 95 he would say: "Gee, I never thought that I would get THAT old."
One of Disney’s elite "Nine Old Men," Johnston and long-time collaborator Frank Thomas were creative driving forces behind such enduring Disney classics as Pinocchio, Bambi, Lady and the Tramp and The Jungle Book.
Johnson was born on Oct. 31, 1912 in Palo Alto Calif. He met Thomas when they were both students at Stanford. They later joined Disney within a year of each other in the mid-1930s.
Ollie's animation touched so many of us.
Pinocchio, Bambi, King of Hearts, Mr. Smee, the dogs from Lady & the Tramp, the Three Fairies in Sleeping Beauty, the Nanny, Archimedes, Bagheera & the Girl, Duchess & the Kittens, Prince John & Sir Hiss, Penny & Rufus and many short films.
Let’s celebrate his amazing life with a few pics.
